How To Clear Browser Cache Or Force Refresh In Apple, Microsoft, iOS, Android Browsers

Clearing Cache / Force Refresh by Platform

This HowTo is a quick list of ways to clear cache for Apple Mac, Microsoft Windows, iOS and Android based web browsers.

These instructions will work with Firefox, Chrome, Vivaldi, Edge, Safari, Opera and most other web browsers.

Simplest instruction – use them with your clients

Tell them to visit the page and press:

  • Mac: Cmd + Shift + R
  • Windows: Ctrl + Shift + R

That covers 90% of cases without touching their full browser history.

If that isn’t enough then see the list below – for both refresh and cache clearing.

Desktop — Force Refresh (quickest, no full cache clear needed)

Platform Shortcut
Mac (any browser) Cmd + Shift + R
Windows (any browser) Ctrl + Shift + R

This forces the browser to bypass cache and reload all assets for that page only — perfect for your situation.

Single Site Cache Clear (if force refresh isn’t enough)

Mac — Chrome/Edge/Firefox

  1. Open DevTools: Cmd + Option + I
  2. Right-click the reload button
  3. Select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”

Windows — Chrome/Edge/Firefox

  1. Open DevTools: F12
  2. Right-click the reload button
  3. Select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”

Mobile — Single Site

iOS (Safari)

  • No single-site option — go to Settings → Safari → Clear History and Website Data
  • Or try holding the reload button in the address bar → Reload Without Content Blockers

iOS (Chrome)

  • ... menu → Settings → Privacy → Clear Browsing Data — select Cached Images only

Android (Chrome)

  • ... menu → Settings → Privacy and Security → Clear browsing data — select Cached Images only
