Fix for iCloud 0x800CCC0E in Outlook (Windows)
If you are using Outlook to download your iCloud email, using iMap or pop, and it says, “Outlook cannot synchronize subscribed folders for USERNAME@icloud.com. Error: Cannot connect to the server.” thne it is possible Microsoft is forcing you to use an application password, instead of your original iCloud email password.
Steps to fix this issue normally tell you to go to File ->Account -Settings -> Account Settings in Outlook, and change your password.
The problem with this is Microsoft Outlook no longer lets you edit or change your password via Outlook.
There are tow ways to fix this:
A) Delete your account and set it up again using an iCloud Application Password. (Step 1 below)
B) Be a sneaky know it all and use the old 32 Bit Mail settings in Control Panel. They still et you set your passwords and change other settings.
Here is how you access your password settings like a pro using method B.
- Generate an App-Specific Password from appleid.apple.com → Sign-In and Security → App-Specific Passwords
- Open Control Panel (not Outlook)
- Go to Mail (32-bit)
- Click Email Accounts
- Select your iCloud account → Change
- You’ll see the Password field here — enter your app-specific password
- Click Next / Finish
- Restart Outlook and let it sync
The old Control Panel , 32 Bit Mail settings, haven’t changed since Windows 98 / XP days. They still work. If you are having any issues setting up email because Microsoft hides mail settings, then this is the way to resolve those issues.
These settings will let you manually set:
- Server names
- iMap / Pop settings
- Passwords
- Ports
- Security types
